Making your own pillowcases can be a fun and easy way to give a room a makeover. New to sewing? No problem. DIY pillowcases are one of the easiest sewing projects. All you need are a few sewing basics and a bit of creativity. Watch the video below to see how simple it can be to change up your pillow fabric and color to create a new vibe for a new season.
Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
Fabric
Don’t be afraid to get creative here—choose cotton, faux fur or even an old sweater you’re not ready to say goodbye to just yet.
Pillowcase Insert
You can buy these online or at most fabric stores. They come in various sizes—the video above suggests 16” by 16” for a throw pillow.
Scissors
Your kitchen pair won’t do. You’ll want a solid pair of scissors to cut the fabric.
Ruler
A ruler will help you measure the fabric and cut straight lines.
Sewing Machine
Make the magic happen with one of the below sewing machines, or opt to sew by hand.
Iron & Ironing board
Make sewing the last bit of fabric easier by ironing it first.
With the right fabrics and some imagination, making DIY pillowcases can keep your house looking fresh and new.
